Trauma-Informed Cybersecurity for Marginalised Communities

WorkshopsCommunity OutreachTraining DesignThreat ModellingCurriculum DevelopmentVisit Site

Overview

SonderSec was founded to close the cybersecurity gap for the people most often left behind — our elders, caregivers, and underserved communities. The organisation designs trauma-informed training workshops that equip vulnerable populations with the knowledge to recognise scams, the tools to protect their information, and the confidence to stay connected without fear. When we protect the most overlooked, we protect everyone.

Key Features

Government Scams & Impersonation

Recognising, verifying, and reporting fake calls and letters from Social Security, Medicare, or the IRS

Romance & Caregiver Exploitation

Spotting red flags early in emotional manipulation that leads to financial abuse — without shame

Tech Support & Password Traps

Staying safe from pop-ups, phishing emails, and scam tech support calls targeting older adults

What to Do After a Scam

Recovery steps, emotional support, and how to stop further harm if you've been targeted

Banking & Payment App Fraud

Spotting suspicious activity and protecting digital money transfers on Zelle, PayPal, and Venmo

Fake Charities & Donation Scams

Verifying charities and donating safely — because scammers prey on good intentions

Architecture

1Trauma-Informed Design

Every workshop is built around safety, trust, and empowerment. Materials avoid blame language and meet participants where they are — emotionally and technically.

2Community-First Delivery

Training is delivered through partnerships with community organisations, senior centres, and caregiving networks — not through generic online courses.

3Threat-Adapted Curriculum

Content is updated based on real-time scam trends and community-reported incidents, ensuring relevance to the threats people actually face.
